New IMO regulation requires any kind of vehicle is declared as Dangerous Goods. This amendment will become mandatory as from January 1st, 2012. For example a car or truck - using gasoline or petrol - shall be declared as UN3166 (Vehicle, flammable liquid powered, Class 9).
Some exemptions limit the application of new rules.
Additionally observing the following:
1. Do not label
2. Do not mark
3, Do not placard/mark the container
4. Dangerous goods documentation shall be prepared as usual
5. Not applicable to vehicles transported in car carriers.
EXEMPTIONS – Shipping a vehicle as harmless
If the shipper wants to ship it as harmless, shall certify that Special Provision 961 is complied with. This basically means:
- Isolate the battery
- Empty the fuel tank
The B/L shall include the following clause: “Transported as harmless under the SP961“. In addition to clause 213.
